Today I decided I wanted to go and see a Temple-since I only had to work until Noon. My boss told me about one that was kind of in the mountains and was to be an easy but nice hike. So she found out how to get there. I rode the metro for a few stops and then got off and went outside and was to wait at the nearest bus for a #107 bus. Well I had been there wating for about 5 minutes with a paper with Korean writing on it in my hand to give the busdriver so he could let me know where to get off and a older man came up to me. He ofcourse was Korean but said in English-Excuse me are you going to Dong-Hak-Sa??? I said well yes I am. He told me he was going there too to meet a friend but was not going up to the Temple but he could let me know where to get off the bus.
He was a very cool guy-he had been to 40 countries in his lifetime and was an expert hiker and mountain climber and has written 9 books about Mountains-Wow!!!! I wished my Dad could have been there-he would have loved this guy.
Well soon we were at the Korean State Park where the temple was located and I parted ways with my new friend and headed up towards the temple-DongHaksa.
The path was just beautiful and I could not believe this amazing, beautiful place was only a 15 minute bus ride from the heart of the city of Daejeon. This was like a whole different world. The path to the temple was paved road and now and then you had to watch out for a car but only a few and there was plently of room for them to get by. The path was very easy and so amazingly beautiful-I was just in awe of the nature around me.
You can go up to the Temple but not all the way inside. I saw several monks around but was unable to get a pic. There was a sign in front of the temple about its history in Korean and English.
They believe the Temple was built around 754-WoW!!! It was destroyed by fire in the 1700's and then rebuilt in the 1800's.
I was just in awe. There is a waterfall another 1.7 km from the temple and then is to be another temple on the top of the mountain. The path becomes rocky and a little more difficult after the temple and I started climbing it for about 15 minutes or so but I started to get tired and thought it would be best to come up back with hiking shoes instead of just running shoes. Also I had been worried all day that it was going to rain and lucky it had not so far so I headed down.
I enjoyed my walk back past the temple and went back down to catch the bus. I waited for about five minutes when a 107 came and then easily found the metro station and headed back to my apartment. No sooner than I got home it started raining really hard and it is still raining 4 hours later. I was really glad I came home when I did. There will be other days to go see the waterfall and climb to the top of the mountain.
It was such a great day and just loved seeing the beautiful temple and all the beautiful nature-trees, water etc. around it. I posted my pics of my adventure before writing this blog so they are in the two blogs following this-enjoy!!!
